Chow / german shepherd mix
I have a chow / german shepherd - mix, about 5 to 7 years old, and recently (within past three or four weeks) he's been having small nose bleeds (small meaning it doesn't "gush" just about 10 drops or so per episode). There's nothing I notice about his activity immediately prior to the bleeding except perhaps he may sneeze or snort within five minutes of the bleeding occurring. Is there anything I can do for him or is this "normal" (something that I shouldn't worry about and that should go away)?
You have not said if these bleeds are coming from one or both nostrils. Blood from one nostril only is often (but not always) a tumour or foreign body in the sinus. Blood from both nostrils is often an infection or a blood clotting disorder. Whether from one or both nostrils, bleeding is not normal and you should take your dog to a veterinarian for an examination.
