Give liquid medications to your dog
Give liquid medications to your dog
- Giving liquid medications can be easier than a pill for some dog owners.
- Smaller dogs tend to be more difficult with pills because of the size of the mouth.
- This method can also be used to give water by mouth to sick dogs.
- The mouth does not need to be opened wide to get a liquid medication or water into it.
- Your dog needs to feel comfortable with you holding the nose and restraining head movement.
- With your hand over the top of the nose, grasp the nose and upper jaw elevating the head.
- Using an eyedropper or syringe, insert the device into the mouth back of the large canine teeth.
- With a smooth delivery, inject the medication (water) into the mouth onto the tongue.
- As the dog swallows inject more medication until the proper amount has been given.
- Start getting your dog familiar with this process as a puppy and your life will be much easier when medications have to be given.
