Male pit bull/Bullmastiff mix having seizures
I have a male pit bull/Bullmastiff mix who will be 3 years old next month. He just starting having seizures about two months ago and has had about four so far. I think the heat triggers them. Now that it's really hot I don't walk him or leave him outside more than a few minutes. Is he epileptic? I've heard humans need help with seizures. Is it the same with dogs? I'm afraid to help him until the seizure is over because he's so big (110 pounds)
Your dog needs medical attention! Only a veterinarian can tell you why your dog is having seizures and help you with treatment. There are many possible causes ranging from heredity to brain tumors. Most seizure disorders respond to medical treatment and prescription drugs, but it is important you determine the source of your dog's problem with the help of your veterinarian. You may be referred to a veterinary neurologist, who will be able to perform comprehensive diagnostic tests. Don't be afraid to follow through; it is always worse to have a problem and not know what is causing it than to face the scary but often treatable truth. Too many people make up their own answers and pass up the time when the problem could have been helped.
