Dog For Allergic Son
I want to get a dog, but my 13-year-old son is allergic. His symptoms include sneezing, and watering and itchy eyes when exposed to particularly hairy dogs. Can you recommend any breeds which might not induce an allergic reaction in my son?
This is a tough one because depending on how severe your son's allergic reaction is, would also effect how he is going to react to even the most hypoallergenic of dogs. The dogs that seem to be the best in hypoallergenic department are the Poodle, Bichon Frise, Maltese and some Terriers. The Chinese Crested is a dog that does not have fur except on its head and tail. I think that you have to acquire a fancy for this breed. Look them all up and then decide which one you like. Again I must stress that all dogs seem to have a certain level of allergens. So the dogs that I have mentioned may or may not cause a problem for your son. Now there are products that you can use on dogs, cats and even birds that will help keep these allergens to a minimum. Here are a few of the products by name: Aller-D, Dander Control by Natures Miracle and there are a few others. You can get these products from any pet store or online at any e-commerce pet site. In closing I must stress again that these breeds do have certain levels of allergens. Also I would be sure to contact your sons doctor for his/hers advise as well.
