What Should I Do About Wound From Fight?
My dog just got into a scrap with a friends dog two days ago. My dog suffered a wound to the front leg shin area. I allowed my dog to take care of it himself. I noticed yesterday the wound was to the bone. The bleeding had stopped soon after the incident. The wound is about dime sized in shape with granulating tissue forming & the surrounding area clean with pink tissue. He doesn't really seem to be bothered by it. I don't want to spend the money for a vet visit to have them say let it heal itself. I am a nurse & can tell if it looks like infection is setting in. As I said it is clean & with signs of healing. He is a house dog & is only outside on a lead to do his business & is let in. He is not out for any extended period of time. Can I just let it heal itself & watch for any signs of infection,or might it need stitches &/or ointment?
I always like being on the safe side with situations like these. I would rather have piece of mind. As you know, these wounds can sometimes get infected and lead to more dangerous situations. Stitches may be needed and I would take him in. Good luck!
