Home Remedies: Arthritis, Bad Breath, Constipation, Fever, Flatulence, Matted Fur, Ulcers

No matter how well we try to care for our pets, minor health problems still do occur. While vets are an essential and necessary part of our dog's lives, some ailments can and should be taken care of at home. Listed below are some common ailments along with vet recommended treatments.

Arthritis
If your pet suffers from arthritis, raise their dishes up off the floor. By elevating their food and water dishes, dogs with stiff necks won't have to dip their heads to eat or drink.

Bad Breath
Does your dog have a problem with bad breath? Feed him a piece of raw carrot. This will serve as a tooth scraper and get rid of some of the odor causing plaque.

Constipation
Got a pup that can't poop? Give them some milk. Small pets should have 1/8 cup of milk twice a day while larger pets can have 1/2 cup two times a day. When your pup is regular again wean them off the milk over a period of three days.

Fever
Does Fido have a fever? Try soaking a small towel in cool water and wrapping it around them. Continue to keep the cloth cool. For a large dog, keep the cool cloth on its' belly.

Flatulence
If your pet suffers from flatulence try giving them some plain yogurt. For a small dog, give 1/4 teaspoon, for a 15-20 pound dog, give 1-teaspoon, and for larger dogs, 1 tablespoon.

Matted Fur
If your dog has matted fur, try sprinkling it with cornstarch. Pull the hair apart with your fingers. Start at the ends and divide the mat in half. Continue to divide until the mat is gone and then run a comb through it.

Ulcers
Finally, do you have a pet that suffers from ulcers? Make sure that they have plenty of chew toys. Providing them with proper chew toys will lessen the risk that they will chew and swallow things that could cause ulcers.

Please remember that these hints are provided so that you can better care for your pet. Regular visits to your vet are an essential part of your dogs' life and should not be overlooked.
