Identify your dog
Identify your dog
If your dog is lost, it is important to have some means of identification. The first method for simple identification is a secure I.D. tag on the dog's collar.
It should have the following:
- pet's name
- owner's name
- owner's address
- owner's telephone number. Most county dog wardens require that your dog wear a dog license.
The information that can be obtained from this type of identification is the owner and often the veterinarian of that dog. For years, veterinarians and breeders have been using different methods of tattooing dogs.
- This is a simple procedure and relatively painless. The tattoo is often placed inside the thigh or inside the ear flap (pina). The newest form of identification is the computer chip implanted under the skin.
- The identifier chip is about the size and shape of a large grain of rice. Identifying the chip requires a scanner which many Humane Societies have at their disposal.
- It is always a good idea to have current pictures or photographs of your dog.
- If there are unusual markings, it is important to take close-ups of those areas.
