Introduce a puppy
Introduce a puppy
- The introduction of a puppy to an older dog is best accomplished on neutral territory.
- Take the older dog somewhere other than its own home or back yard.
- Have someone else meet you with the puppy at the neutral site.
- Have both the adult dog and the puppy on a leash for proper control.
- Allow them to sniff each other watching for aggressive behavior by the older dog.
- Once the older dog has accepted the presence of the puppy, let the two work out their differences.
- You should not always give in to the puppy if there is a confrontation.
- The older dog may at times reprimand the puppy for being too rough or for trying to take something away from the older dog.
- This may take 2 or 3 meetings before the two dogs work things out, or it may be love on the first meeting.
