Protect your dog from heat
Protect your dog from heat
Protecting your dog from the extreme heat is not difficult to do. Your dog has the tools to get rid of heat as long as it has the opportunity to do so.
You must follow these safeguards to avoid problems:
- NEVER leave your dog is a closed area without adequate ventilation.
- During hot weather, ten minutes in an enclosed car can cause heat prostration and possible death of your pet.
- Always have a good supply of fresh water for the dog to drink.
- The dog needs to have an area out of direct sunshine other than a dog house.
- Many dogs like to have a small swimming pool such as a baby pool that can be filled during summertime.
- On hot days, do not allow your dog to run without some controls.
- Dogs have been known to develop heat stroke when they race along fence lines with the neighbor's dog or other stimulus.
- If your dog is not in good physical condition, do not walk briskly or jog with the dog in hot weather.
