Teach dogs retrieving
- Pick an object that your pup or dog enjoys playing with.
- Tease the dog with the toy until he is excited about getting to it.
- When this happens, throw the toy a few feet.
- When the dog goes after the toy, give the dog praise.
- As the dog does this consistently, add the command "fetch" (or whatever commands you want to use) with the action.
- Always praise the dog when he brings the object back to you.
- If he brings you something that is "off limits", take that object and replace it with something he is allowed to have.
- DON'T reprimand the dog when he brings you these "off limits" objects.
- Some breeds are more willing to retrieve than others.
- There are training methods that require professional direction that go beyond the scope of this discussion.
- Getting your dog involved in an obedience course will provide the proper and necessary training to advanced work.
