How do we cope with our pug being in heat?
How do we cope with our pug's period? She just started today. I had never even given it a thought. Any advice? We want to raise puppies so do not want to have her fixed. How long do we need to wait until we attempt to mate her? Also, do pugs breed better if they live with the male or if a stud service male is used?
Her heat cycle will last about 21 days and I would not breed her until the second or third heat. You can get those little pads and belts found at pet stores to help with accidents from being in heat.
On the male dog in the house hold, either way. An unfixed male dog however can be a nuisance with an intact female in the house hold. You will have a whole lot of "marking" going on.
I have to say also that I am not a fan of breeding household pets. If you are a professional breeder and know what you are doing then it is ok. Breeding household pets to either "have one litter, then have them fixed" is not right or "letting the kids see the miracle of life" again is not right, rent the video.
