Lame Sheltie Needs Alternative Exercise

My dog came up lame in his left rear leg one week ago. He's a two-year Sheltie who is extremely healthy and active. The vet has diagnosed a pulled ligament in his knee and prescribed prednisone (sp?) and limited activity with a recheck in two weeks. I'm looking for suggestions on activities that will not hurt his knee but still provide exercise or therapy so he won't lose his muscle. An added benefit would be something for us to do together to use up some of his pent up energy.

He cruciated ligament is one of the most common of injuries in dogs. Keeping them quiet in itself is a feat! During recovery I recommend nothing except light walking and no running. Any light exercise or playing could result in twisting the ligament the wrong way or aggravating it so I recommend that you keep your pooch in doors during this period of time. I do not feel that the muscle will suffer during this down time. Follow your vets advise and good luck!
