8 month old Pekinese Puppy Grumpy
I have a 8 month old female pekinese puppy. She has a bad habit of growling and biting for no reason. For example, she can be lying on my bed and when I reach to pet her, she growls and snaps at me. Is this a serious problem? What do I do about her bad attitude? Will she outgrow this? I am concerned. She is registered and I got her from a breeder. Why is she so grumpy?
Yes, you have to get to the bottom of this because this can be a real problem when your pooch gets older. Your dog has to realize who the top dog in your house is, and it is not your dog- but you. Is there anytime that your dog will not react this way. For example can you lean over and pick her up from the ground and not get this reaction? Is it when she is on the bed only or all of the time. You have to determine when she does this behavior and learn what triggers it. At that point you have to tell her 'no' in a stern voice and then leave her alone. Go back to her in a few minutes and reward her for being good and offer her a little treat. At that point go ahead and pet her and talk nicely to her. Give her a treat and then walk away. Repeat this over and over. Never play rough with her and never use your hands to reprimand her. Try this and see if this helps.
