Brush your dog
Brush your dog
Often the type of dog (breed and/or type of coat) has its own style of grooming and hair care. Some require special equipment for stripping or combing. It is often necessary to purchase grooming clippers. Grooming clippers can be purchased from most pet supply stores.
Brushing your dog usually is not difficult if you start the process early in the dog's life. The use of a good steel comb and brush will work for most dogs.
For dogs that shed seasonally it is important to remove the undercoat (a layer of softer hair close to the skin) as it is released in the spring and summer.
The following is a list of grooming tools that can be helpful:
- Steel comb
- Natural bristle brush
- Mat comb or mat removing rake
- Undercoat brush
- Shears (Oster {R} is a reliable brand)
- Scissors-some or all of these tools may make the grooming of your dog easier.
Ask a professional groomer or consult a good grooming book for more details on when and what to use.
