Clean the dog eyes
Clean the dog eyes
Most dogs collect matter in their eyes with some breeds having excessive matter accumulation. Breeds that have a lot of hair that falls over the face and into the eyes usually have a problem.
Cleaning the eyes of foreign material requires good common sense. You never want to put anything into the eyes that can be irritating or damaging. When there is a question about what to use, use warm water. This is always safe and effective.
To help protect the eyes follow these rules:
- Keep hair from constantly touching the eyeball.
- Use Vaseline (R) in the corners of the eyes to reduce the adhesion of matter to the hair.
- When possible, keep the hair clipped close around the edges of the eyelids.
- When washing the dog, never use soap near the eyes.
- Warm water, ophthalmic saline solutions, and artificial tears are safe to use in the eyes.
- Often the use of artificial tears before a bath can prevent irritation to the eyes.
- Refer to conjunctivitis, cloudy eyes, and others.
