Flying with Pets
I will be flying from Anchorage, AK to Seattle, WA with my 6 yr old lab/chow mix, 10 yr old lab/rott mix and 7 yr old cat. None have ever flown before and just recently have been introduced to airline kennels. Should I sedate them prior to the flight or not?(the rott mix gets extremely agitated at loud sounds and is very timid.) Your advise would be appreciated.
Great question! It is not recommended that you tranquilize pets during flights. The effects lowers their breathing and body rates too much therefore creating a more negative effect than not tranquilizing them. Most pets do well while flying. I would try putting them in the crates and taking them on long drives to help desensitize them. Take them on several trips and in different types of traffic.
