The history of Stamen Animal Hospital begins in nineteenth century Eastern Europe. There, in a little Russian town a boy by the name of Harry Clarence Stamen was born. Fleeing religious persecution, he emigrated to the United Sates when he was only six years old. Whether his interest in working with animals grew from his homeland or while growing up in a rural Massachusetts town (Chelsea), is not clear. What is clear is Harry’s devotion to the veterinarian profession. Prior to enlisting with the US Army (it is not clear whether he was part of the Veterinary Corp. during the war), Harry worked as a cow tester.

Stamen Animal Hospital was founded in 1927 by Dr. Harry C. Stamen, DVM. As one of the oldest continuously operating veterinary practices in Westchester County, Stamen Animal Hospital’s fundamental mission remains the same: to provide the highest quality veterinary care in the treatment and prevention of disease in a compassionate and professional manner.
